Welcome The Flex Show to 2008

Hi listeners,

Welcome to 2008 of The Flex Show.

First I want to thank all the supporters of the podcast in 2007, especially Ryan Stewart who was with me from the beginning. It was a pleasure to do the show with Ryan, I wish him luck with all future endeavorers, and hope to catch a drink with him at the next 360.

Congratulations to Barry of Granite Studios for winning the iPod survey prize. Thanks for all the people who responded to both our surveys in 2007. Your feedback will help us shape the podcast this year. We'll talk about how int he next episode.

In 2007, we had roughly 51,000 episode downloads, most of that coming from iTunes. The website had ~95,000 hits, the average episode download is almost 1700 downloads per episode. Feedburner reports 709 subscribers. Not too shabby.

Download numbers should be relatively accurate, but for our first month, we had no download tracking in place. In the middle of the year, we lost a bunch of tracking week due to a bug when I upgraded our blogging software, accidentally overwriting some of my customizations. Near the end of the year we started tracking people who listen on-line without downloading.

Episode 7 appears to be the most popular, with Tony Hillerson's interview having the lowest download numbers (Sorry Tony, you were released around the time of the "tracking" bug. I'm sure the numbers are double what our stats show).

All numbers have been consistently going up since we started. In 2008, I hope to triple the number of subscribers and downloads, so tell your friends.

Keeping on schedule, we'd normally have an episode for you this week, but we got distracted with holidays and it took more time than expected to get a new co-host on board. The first recording of '08 is tomorrow and we'll release the first episode a week from today. What's that, you say? A new co-host? Yep, and you'll have to listen to find out who. I'm just waiting for the I's to be dotted and T's to be crossed.

Also in '08, we are going to be introducing sponsored contests. If you want to get your name in front of Flex Developers, either for recruiting purposes or otherwise, we offer a unique way to do so. Just e-mail us if you're interested in reviewing a media kit and rate card. If anyone is interested in becoming an exclusive sponsor to help bring video to The Flex Show, we'd like to talk to you too.

Note: I edited this a few times after initially posting it. I'm not sure what version hit the feeds. ;)
